A smaller file.

Compress your first file

1. Open MakeSmall and choose files from Files or Photos.
2. Select one file type per batch, such as photos or videos. The files you choose stay selected on the Review screen.
3. Check the preview and adjust the available quality or size controls. Estimates are a guide; the final saving depends on the file.
4. Tap Compress. When it finishes, review the final sizes.
5. Choose Save to export to Files, Share to send a copy, or Photos when that option is available.

Where are my compressed files?

MakeSmall keeps finished copies in Files → On My iPhone → MakeSmall → Compressed. Copies exported to another location stay in that location. Deleting MakeSmall also deletes copies stored only inside MakeSmall, so export anything you want to keep first.

Will my originals change?

Compression creates a result while keeping the original. Some eligible files offer a separate Replace originals action with a confirmation. Use Save or Share to keep both versions. Photos originals and folders cannot be replaced by MakeSmall.

Why didn’t the file get smaller?

Some files are already efficiently compressed. If an output would be larger, MakeSmall keeps the original and marks the result unchanged. A different format, smaller dimensions or lower quality may help when those controls are available.

Quality and format changes can remove detail or affect compatibility. Keep your originals if you may need them later.

A file won’t open or finish

• Make sure the file has downloaded from iCloud or its file provider. Opening it in Files first can help.
• Check that your iPhone has free storage for the input and a temporary output.
• Keep MakeSmall open during a large job. If iOS interrupts it, use Continue remaining when offered.
• Try again with one file. MakeSmall reports unreadable, unsupported or damaged files rather than producing an incomplete result.
• If Photos saving is denied, allow MakeSmall to add photos in iPhone Settings, or use Save to export through Files.

Clear temporary storage

In MakeSmall, open Settings → Clear app cache → Clear. This removes disposable working data and the URL cache. Your saved compressed copies remain. To remove a saved copy, delete it in Files.

PDF text and document features

MakeSmall protects text, links, annotations and other document features by default. Flattening PDF pages is an explicit choice and may remove searchable text or interactive features. Keep the original document when using that option.

Files and advertising privacy

File processing happens on your device. When advertising is enabled, Google handles ad delivery and related data. Advertising privacy choices appears in Settings when Google requires that entry point.
