01 Who is responsible
CrispUp is published by Dev Desai, who is responsible for this policy and for the limited personal data it describes. For any privacy question, contact support@makesmall.app.
02 Photos you choose
CrispUp reads a photo only when you pick one through Apple’s photo picker or take one with the camera. The picker hands over that single photo and nothing else, so CrispUp is never granted access to your photo library and cannot browse it. The camera is used only while you are taking the picture, and nothing is recorded.
The photo is enlarged entirely on your iPhone, by a neural network that ships inside the app. CrispUp operates no upload service, no account database and no cloud processing. A photo in iCloud that has not been downloaded is fetched by iOS through the picker, in the same way any other app would receive it.
03 Results, and what is inside them
A finished picture is held in CrispUp’s local storage while you look at it. It is written to your library only when you choose Save, using a permission that lets CrispUp add pictures and never read them, and it is passed to another app only when you choose Share. When you tap Done you choose whether to discard the working result or keep the latest one for recovery. An interrupted setup can also be kept so you can restart it. These recovery files stay only on the device, are excluded from backup, and can be removed from Settings → Privacy.
The result carries the original photo’s own metadata — capture date, camera and lens, exposure, and location if the original had one — exactly as the original did, because an editor should hand back what it was given. CrispUp adds nothing of its own. If you would rather a shared copy not carry location, remove it in Photos before or after upscaling; CrispUp never reads that information for any purpose of its own.
04 Local preferences
CrispUp stores your settings — the enhancement style, output size, file format and quality you last chose, and whether you have seen the welcome screen — on your device. By default it also keeps up to twenty-four recent originals so you can retry a different style without granting library access. You can turn this off and clear recent originals and recovery files from Settings → Privacy. Deleting CrispUp removes this local data. Pictures you saved to your library remain there.
While a long upscale runs, its progress may appear in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen. That is updated by the app on the device itself and does not involve push notifications or any server.
05 Advertising
CrispUp shows ads. It uses Google Mobile Ads to deliver them. CrispUp does not show ads in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, and it asks you for advertising consent nowhere. Google’s User Messaging Platform is used only to establish whether consent would be required where you are; where it would be, CrispUp requests no ads at all and the advertising SDK never starts.
Ads are non-personalised. CrispUp turns off publisher first-party ID, sends no child or teen age signal, caps ad content at Google’s General rating, and does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, because it does not track you across other companies’ apps and websites. Non-personalised ads still involve some data collection: Google may process an IP address and approximate location derived from it, device or app-instance identifiers, information about how you interact with the app and with the ads it shows, and crash, performance or other diagnostic information. Google uses this information to deliver and measure ads, support app functionality, and detect fraud. Some information may be associated with a device or app instance, but not with an account you hold with CrispUp, because CrispUp has no accounts.
Retention and handling of advertising data are governed by Google’s privacy policy. CrispUp never sends your photos, their names, their metadata or previews of them to Google.
06 Your advertising choices
CrispUp asks for no advertising consent, so there is nothing for you to review or withdraw. Ads include Google’s AdChoices controls where available. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland you will see no ads at all, and the region you are in may otherwise affect whether an ad can be shown.
07 This support website
This website provides information and does not accept uploads of your photos. We do not add advertising or analytics to the website. The hosting service may process basic request information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver and protect the website. Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, the legal basis for this is the legitimate interest in delivering and protecting the website.
08 Children
CrispUp is a general-purpose utility. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the age of digital consent where that age is higher. CrispUp sends no child-directed or teen signal to its advertising provider and limits ad content to Google’s General rating. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will address it.
09 Your privacy rights
CrispUp has no account system and builds no profile about you, so there is usually nothing for it to retrieve or erase. Your photos, results and preferences stay on your device and are gone when you clear them in Settings or remove the app.
Where the UK or EU GDPR applies, you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to the processing of personal data, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. Advertising data is held by Google rather than by CrispUp, so requests about it are handled under Google’s privacy policy. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland CrispUp requests no advertising, so there is no advertising data about you to hold in the first place.
CrispUp does not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in California law, and does not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
10 Where information is processed
Your photos are processed on your iPhone and are not transferred anywhere. This website is served by a global hosting network, and advertising is delivered by Google. Both may process request information, including an IP address, on servers outside your own country.
Updates and questions
Privacy should be easy to ask about.
This policy may change when CrispUp or the services it uses change. The update date appears at the top of this page. The support guide explains how to choose a style, save results and troubleshoot common issues.
